Hong Kong Outdoor Ethics – Introduction

A number of regional management authorities and NGOs in the world, including the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs of UK,international organizations such as the International Ecotourism Society and Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) initiated by divers worldwide, have set up guidelines and rules for outdoor activities.

 

Local outdoor education organizations and authorities also have general rules:

 

The Country Code by Scout Association of Hong Kong

 

Countryside Code by the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department to serve as guidance for outdoor activities. 

 

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics of the U.S. has formulated an education system for outdoor ethics which has successfully reached out different parts of the world.

There are four areas into which we have summarized the important things to note when planning and conducting an outdoor trip, in view of the characteristics of the environment of Hong Kong with reference to various guidelines and systems:
